What Does a Family Doctor Do?

A Family Doctor is a professional who accompanies you throughout your life, in both health and illness. They are someone who can competently address most of your healthcare needs, with a deep understanding of you as an individual. They coordinate your care, guiding you through the healthcare system and, when necessary, recommending which professionals or specialists to consult. It is a practice grounded in evidence, delivered with affection, care, and respect.

Services

  • Periodic appointments tailored to your unique characteristics and individual needs.

  • Home visits for individuals and families with mobility limitations or special needs.

  • When appropriate, for issues that can be resolved remotely, based on the individual’s preference and my professional assessment.

  • Care for conditions such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Asthma and COPD, Osteoporosis, HIV, Alzheimer’s (and other dementias), and more. Treatment is evidence-based and coordinated with other professionals when needed.

  • Referrals to other specialists or healthcare professionals when necessary, while maintaining a strong patient-doctor relationship. Management of polypharmacy and interactions between multiple conditions.

  • Care focused on disease prevention and health promotion, tailored to individual preferences and needs.

  • A multimodal and interdisciplinary approach to chronic pain, including generalized pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, lower back pain, neck pain, and other pain syndromes.

  • Dry needling, wet needling, and other manual techniques for the relief and diagnosis of musculoskeletal pain.

  • Guidance with medication and behavioral approaches to help facilitate quitting tobacco use.

  • Responsible prescribing of phytocannabinoids, without promoting them as a cure-all.

  • Treatment and follow-up for anxiety, depression, harm reduction, and more.

  • Acknowledging the importance of family relationships (both nuclear and extended) in the experience of illness and in developing effective care plans.

  • Prescription and follow-up for individuals interested in using Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV (medications are provided by the public healthcare system).
